Finally home for a couple of weeks!  Whew!!!  Life has been very hectic and my body doesn't know what time zone it's in!  At least I will be in the Eastern time zone for a while now (until November).  I have been inspired not only by the scenery of my travels but by my students who keep challenging me in my workshops.  Spain was very inspirational in both ways.  Now if I just had some time to actually create!  Read a bit about my trip on my blog atwww.lenorecrawford.blogspot.com

Finding the Right Fabric Makes the Project

When recreating a photograph in fabric, the project always looks better when we find the perfect fabric.  In this project Montse used a gradient brown/gray to nearly white fabric to create the water.  In the photo the water was more blue at the horizon and more gray in the foreground like here.  So I suggested to her to use the same fabric for the horizon area as she used in the foreground.  The photo was taken on a cloudy day and the only blue fabric she had for the water was very bright and didn't seem to work.  By using the same fabric toward the horizon the design has better flow and looks more realistic.  The piece is very successful because she paid attention to the value differences where necessary.  The bright side of the boat compared to the dark side in shadow gives drama to the design.  You can learn how to create your own art quilt from a photo on my Fusing/Fabric Painting to Create an Art Quilt CD-ROM on my website at this link
